What we did:
1. Searched for a Christmas tree.
2 years ago, Michael was in Australia for most of December and returned home on the 23rd-- thus we accidentally started our tradition of buying our tree on Christmas eve. Last year we procrastinated so much that we didn't have a chance to decorate it until after Dominic had gone to bed... The result of this was an especially magical Christmas morning for our little boy, who woke up to a lit and decorated tree. We loved this and decided to do it again this year. Unfortunately, finding a suitable tree on the 24th can be challenging...
Finally found one to bring home!
2. Made Starlight cookies.
This was a new tradition for us this year. While we make the cookies, we recount the journey that Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem. Dominic loved it!
3. Went to my Mom and Dad's house for dinner.
4. The kids opened up their traditional Christmas eve jammies, and first Christmas gift. We were surprised that at 4-months old, Gabriel quickly got a hang of how to unwrap gifts!
6. I think Dominic's favorite part of the night was decorating a giant gingerbread man with ALL FOUR grandparents. My boys are SO BLESSED to be so close to all of their grandparents-- just the thought of it brings sincere and joyful tears to my eyes. What a gift!
7. When we returned home we put the kids to bed, decorated our tree, assembled a tricycle, prepared a breakfast casserole, stuffed stockings and finished decorating... And somehow we got to bed before midnight!
Merry Christmas!!
