Dear Nicholas,
You are two! And not so terrible. At all.
In fact, I am confident that you are one of the sweetest boys on this planet. You are also one of the most polite. In addition to saying "peeeease" when you ask for something, you thank me for dinner, thank me for reading to you and for just about everything. It is adorable.
As always, you've grown leaps and bounds through your "ones". Your chunky baby legs started walking at 14-months and have gone from toddling to running since then. You also spent the first half of your year staying very quiet. At one point I asked the pediatrician if she suspected a speech delay. She told me that if you didn't have more words by your second birthday we would explore some options. Within months your vocabulary truly exploded. You are speaking with pronouns and in full sentences now and we are really enjoying hearing your little opinion! Although you are one of the tiniest two-year-olds (8th percentile), developmentally you are officially "caught up" on your prematurity.
You became a big brother this year. It was a tough transition (mostly on me), because we went from always being together to being apart for almost two-months. Despite being my baby, you took it in stride and went with the flow. You happily attached to your dad and grandparents. This was a gift for your worried mama.
You are our BEST napper. I had always heard of kids who slept for two or three hours in the middle of the day. Yep, you are one of them. You sleep well at night, but have been our resident rooster now since the beginning. We are all hoping that this is the year you start sleeping in past 6AM!
Hockey, hockey, hockey. I know I should expect this by now, being a boy mom! You love the Ducks, just like your grandpapa. Thanks to you and your brothers I know all of the NHL team logos and "goal songs". You are such a talented boy and you already have a great shot. I know you are going to keep up with those big brothers of yours.
Your favorite foods are strawberries, blueberries, cheese, pancakes, sausage and ketchup. You could eat anything with ketchup (or maybe I should say that you could eat ketchup with anything!)
I love seeing glimpses of a little boy emerging from your baby face. You are very independent and want to be one of the big kids. "Nicholas do it" is one of your favorite phrases.You are similar, but also very different from your older brothers. You complete our family we all adore you.
You make me so proud Nicholas. I think God everyday for you and am honored to be your mother. You are my Christmas miracle and the greatest of gifts.
