Our Christmas eve was very special this year.
We were honored and humbled to be chosen by our pastor to represent Joseph and Mary during the Christmas vigil mass, and to bring up and place the baby Jesus in our parish manger and nativity. It was a beautiful experience and prayer, to imitate the Holy family! I was especially grateful that our little boys had a chance to kiss and touch "baby Jesus" and witness this tradition from up-close. It was the most perfect culmination of everything that we tried to teach them during advent!
We also felt especially grateful for our front-row seats at this very (very!) crowded mass. What a blessed way to celebrate our Lord's birthday, but to be so close to the altar!
After mass we enjoyed my mom's traditional French-Canadian tourtiere to celebrate the "revellion". This year we had the genius idea to add bacon (!) to the meat pie. YUM!
We placed Jesus in the mangers around the house, and set out our stockings for St. Nicholas.
One of our advent activities this year was to prepare a manger for Jesus. Every time we noticed Dominic being obedient, loving, or doing a good deed, we placed a stray in our manger. By Christmas eve, Dominic had made a soft and warm bed for our baby Jesus.
